BBC Radio 1Xtra Telephony Competitions 2026-2027 – Terms and Conditions
1. The competition is open to all residents of the UK, the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man aged 18 or over, except BBC or BBC Group Company employees, their close relatives or anyone connected with the competitions or the particular prizes being offered.
2. The prize will be as described on-air.
3. To enter the competition, listeners must phone in to the programme when they hear a song by a chosen artist, and the show host announces that the competition is open. The open and close times will be clearly announced on-air and possibly online if appropriate. Please listen carefully to announcements. The open time may be indicated on-air by a trigger (e.g. a song/ klaxon), if so this will be clearly described on-air, and possibly online, before the competition opens. Listeners will then have 15 minutes to register for the competition.
4. Entrants who phone in will need to convince the 1Xtra phone operators why they should be put forward for the on-air competition. The phone operators will ask each entrant two questions and score each answer out of 5 based on their enthusiasm and passion for the prize, for an overall score out of 10. The two questions are likely to be:
• What’s your favourite show on 1Xtra and why?• Why do you want to win the prize?
The phone operators will shortlist a selection of entrants with the highest overall scores to come on air to answer one trivia question related to the prize available on that competition day.
Entrants will be called back in order of their scores (with the highest scoring entrant being called first). If we have more than one listener with 10 points, the producer will decide based on who was the most enthusiastic caller. If the call is not answered on the first attempt, or if there is no answer after 30 seconds of the phone ringing, or the shortlisted entrant is rude or abusive, then they will not take part in the on-air competition. The entrant with the next highest score will then be called.
Entrants will be brought on air in turn to play the competition in which they will have five seconds to answer the trivia question. Only the first answer will be accepted. If they get the answer wrong, they do not win the prize and the entrant with the next highest score will be called and brought on air to answer a different trivia question. This process will continue until an entrant correctly answers a trivia question within the five second time and wins the prize.
Entrants must answer all questions independently and without assistance (except in such circumstances where such reasonable adjustments are in place). Help from any other person, including prompts, signals, background voices or third-party communication of any kind, is prohibited. Any entrant found to be receiving unauthorised assistance will be disqualified.
5. Registration to take part in the competition is only available by using the following method:
by phoning 03704 121 111 during the registration window described on-air. Standard geographic call charges apply. No other method of entry will be accepted.
6. Each entrant must enter the competition on their own behalf, and register using their own phone. The BBC reserves the right to disqualify any entrant.
7. The BBC's decision as to entrants and winners is final. No correspondence relating to the competition will be entered into.
8. Winners agree to take part in any post-competition publicity if required.
11. Unless otherwise stated in the prize description, travel and/or expenses for reaching event locations associated with the prize are not included and the BBC will not be responsible for any reimbursements.
12. The prize will be as described on-air. The prize may require collection or additional actions to be taken for fulfilment. The BBC is not responsible for winners failing to follow instructions. There will be no additional elements, fees or expenses covered (including but not limited to travel or accommodation) unless expressly stated in the particular prize description.
13. If the winners and/or their guests (if applicable) have any health or accessibility requirements, these need to be disclosed to the BBC prior to prize fulfilment. In order to fully experience the ticketed event, there may be some Health & Safety requirements imposed by BBC, the promoter or the venue.
