Dare to Knit updateBefore Christmas the CSV Action Desk called on you to dig out those knitting needles and help make christmas a little bit warmer for premature babies in Oxfordshire. Well over 200 people replied - a fantastic effort. Thankyou all you knitters. Update: Over 200 people responded asking for knitting patterns, and clothes are still flooding in. A lot of the clothes received have gone to the John Radcliffe and Chipping Norton maternity baby units as well as to the Bonnie Babies, the charity that distributes them among hospitals. If you're still knitting though, don't worry - we'll pass on any more items sent in. Thank you to everyone who has contributed. Thanks to all our knitters – from the John Radcliffe Premature baby unit. See the photo of Julie Da Silva-Moore, Manger of SSNAP (Support for the Sick Newborn and their Parents) and Dr Kenny McCormick, Neonatal consultant, John Radcliffe Hospital thanking all our knitters. They were delighted with the response. The Original Appeal:One out of every 14 babies is born too soon, and many are too small for normal clothes: we're asking you to knit clothing, blankets and teddies to keep them warm and comfortable in their first few weeks of life. The campaign is being run in aid of Bonnie Babies, who will ensure your knitted contributions are sent to hospitals around Oxfordshire. Bonnie Babies was set up several years ago to provide clothes and support to premature babies and their parents. Its founder, Debby Lamont, has tragically lost five babies; she set up the charity as a way of coping and helping other parents to deal with the stresses and sometimes tragedies of premature birth. Bonnie Babies now has hundreds of volunteers across the country, and even as far away as Australia and America, knitting to help. And you can get involved too. Emma, from the CSV Action Desk says, "anyone can join in - whether you're an experienced stitcher or a novice knitter, your contribution will be welcome. If you can hand knit, machine knit or crochet we have specialist patterns for clothing, blankets and teddies that will be perfect for little babies." If you'd like to get involved and get hold of the official knitting patterns, then download the patterns below- Once you've finished post your contribution to- Bonnie Babies last updated: 04/03/2008 at 14:23 You are in: Oxford > BBC Radio Oxford > Factsheets > Dare to Knit update |
