| Following their production of Bronte in October last year, the company return with a highly theatrical take of Charlotte Bronte’s famous story.
Jane Eyre is plain, poor and obscure, but locked up in the attic of her imagination is a woman so passionate, so full of longing that she must be guarded day and night for fear of the havoc she might wreak in the world outside.
In this heartbreaking and compelling adaptation of the novel (believed to be the second most read book in the English language after the Bible), Polly Teale draws the subconscious links between Jane and Bertha, Rochester’s mad wife, thus unleashing a psychological battle between Jane’s fiery nature and her strict Victorian upbringing.
Jane Eyre will be played by Monica Dolan, last seen at the Playhouse as Lady Macbeth in Out of Joint’s gripping site-specific production. Mr. Rochester is played by James Clyde and Bertha by Miriam Acharki. The cast also includes Sarah Ball, Joan Blackham, John Lightbody and Octavia Walters. | | | last updated: 15/03/06 | | SEE ALSO
