Olympic Dreams
Among the many programmes the BBC is commissioning around the London Games is a long-term documentary project, Olympic Dreams, with a TV series on BBC One each year from now up to 2012.
Over the years, Olympic Dreams will follow a host of Olympic and Paralympic hopefuls from the UK teams on their path to the London Olympic Games. The TV programmes will tell their extraordinary personal stories along with those of the coaches, families and friends who support them. As 2012 approaches, the series will be at the epicentre of a huge pan-BBC initiative celebrating and reflecting what will be one of the UK's defining moments in sporting history.
The first series of Olympic Dreams is due to transmit across one week in autumn 2007. For each of six to eight sports a would-be competitor shares their hopes and fears as they struggle through selection and competition to be the best. Filming is observational in style, together with video diaries and interviews, creating an intimate insight into each athlete's Olympic hopes. Stories build towards a major competition, critical selection trial or personal turning-point showing the drama and win/lose nature of sport.
It is just one in a whole portfolio of television and radio programmes that will be on the BBC in the next five years, engaging with the big story: "London 2012".
