Emergency information for Notts

This is where you would expect to find up-to-date advice and information in the event of a major emergency in the county.

This page has been set up with the advice and co-operation of our local emergency planners. We will activate this section as soon as possible in an emergency and keep this site updated on a regular basis.

Go In . . . Stay In . . . Tune In

In a major emergency, if you are not involved in the incident, but are close by or believe you may be in danger, the best advice is to go inside a safe building (that is, a building away from the immediate area affected by the emergency), stay inside until you are advised to do otherwise, and tune in to local radio or TV for information.

If you are coming to us now looking for help with a personal or domestic emergency, the following numbers and websites may be of use to you (you'll find direct links to all websites in the top right hand corner of this page).

Avian Flu

Because of the current state of concern over the posibility of an outbreak of Avian Flu we have had several enquiries about who you should contact if you are concerned after finding bird carcases.

The official advice from Defra (the Department for Environment Food and Rural Affairs) is that if you find one or more dead swans or wild fowl, including ducks and geese; more than three dead birds of the same species or more than five dead birds of different species, in the same place, you should contact the Defra Helpline (08459 33 55 77).

Currently the Helpline is available between the following hours Monday - Friday 8.00am to 8.00pm and Saturday - Sunday 9.00am to 6.00pm. You will be asked for details of your finding and its location.
