Dare 2 Care

Could you make a difference in the life of a child affected by poverty? If you could then the Dare 2 Care campaign could be for you.

Last year BBC Radio Nottingham and the Actionline team helped more than a thousand of you get involved in volunteering. This year we are looking to beat that figure!

Self-esteem

Volunteering can help raise your self-esteem, help you get back into work and give you brand new experiences. Our first volunteering campaign of the year is Dare 2 Care which aims to help children living the affects of poverty.

It is amazing to think that in 2008 there are still children in Britain living in poverty, and it's no small number either. Some agencies estimate that as many as 3.8 million children in Britain are living in poverty right now and many of them are living in Nottinghamshire. Some of them may even live in your street.

The effects of poverty are never solely financial but also limit a child's opportunities in life, block their paths to a good education, damage their health, restrict their access to basic services and affect family life.

The good news is there are loads of ways you can help, you could get involved with one of the hundreds of organisations in Notts who are desperate for volunteers to join their projects or you could start your own brand new project.

You could help makeover a youth club in need of a lick of paint, help restore a park to it's former glory or even teach a ballroom dancing class. Whatever your skills and whether you have 365 days to spare, or just an hour, every little helps and we want to hear from you. We can also help you get grants to cover the cost of your project or event.

So if you are looking to do something different this year and think you can make a difference to the life of a child living in poverty then call our Actionline on 0115 934 84 84 and they will help find the volunteering opportunity to suit you.
