Have you watched a quality British film over the last few years and were left with a strange sense of de ja vu?

"You may see a few more famous faces strolling round the city, staying in hotels and all the rest!"

Dan Hodgett, EM Media

If so you may have experienced one of EM Media's productions filmed right here in Nottinghamshire.

Location, location, location

As EM Media's Location Executive it's Dan Hodgett's job to seek out the region's top buildings, parks, fields, farms and cupboards for up coming feature films.

His location team are always on the look-out for new sets and welcome ideas - whether it is a favourite beauty spot, an impressive disused warehouse or even your very own house!

EM Media is the Regional Screen Agency for the East Midlands, whose role is to support local film, television and interactive media financially, practically and creatively.

Since 2001 the agency have been growing increasingly influencial, and this year a selection of their films have been nominated for BAFTAs.

Many of their past films have been shot all over Nottinghamshire including Snenton, Hockley, Sherwood, and the Theatre Royal.

Stars in Notts?

A prime example is last year's Control, a movie charting the life of lead singer of Joy Division Ian Curtis.

Control: Stoney Street, Notts.

Filmed in black and white, the biography was largely filmed in Nottingham and some locals will instantly recognise Lenton's soaring tower blocks in the opening scenes.

It seems the flats are a pretty popular choice for depicting urban life, as they also appear heavily in Shane Meadows' take on skinhead culture, This Is England.

Dan thinks the filming has so far been a great asset for Nottingham, providing work for local crew workers and bringing millions of pounds to the area:

"It's been great for the city... There is just a big expanse of things they can be spending money on whilst they're here."

Despite BBC Nottingham's intense interrogation Dan wouldn't let slip anything about the agency's next filming projects, but indicated it may soon be time to blow the dust off our autograph books:

"I can't tell you too much about the projects coming up between now and the summer but you may see a few more famous faces strolling round the city, staying in hotels and all the rest!"

Dan was interviewed by John Holmes on BBC Radio Nottingham. You can hear more in depth interviews with the good and the great folk of Nottinghamshire on the Afternoon Show from 14.00 - 16.30 (Monday - Friday).
