Computer art's changed massively in the last 10 years. Nottingham artists recall a colourful decade. Anette Schafer's sitting at the Broadway cinema, recalling the start of an organisation called Trampoline that started in November 1997. "Ten years ago the internet hadn't become mainstream," she says. "When we started in the back of a pub - in the Maze in Nottingham - we had internet access points where people surfed for the first time." Since then, a lot has changed. ![]() ReviewMall - an example of Trampoline's work Going globalAnette and her colleague Matt Davenport now help run the East Midlands' platform event for new media art with bases in Nottingham and Berlin. "A lot of artists are doing performance in new media now," says Matt. "That's what Trampoline has been about from day one - looking at the crossover between performing aspects and new media." Help playing audio/video Over that time, he says the quality has changed dramatically. "Everything is becoming more grounded and everybody is looking to more human work that you can interact with. It's a lot more engaging basically. It's nice. I like it." The future's brightTrampoline still exhibits art at the Broadway cinema in Nottingham. ![]() Matt and Anette The latest collection, called Surveillance City, looks at how our world is reliant on new media. It highlights an environment where every movement is traceable, recordable and identifiable. The changing face of art is a genre where both Matt and Anette seem fully at ease. Anette says, "People are still experimenting because one thing that moves very fast in our everyday life is the technology."
