Greenwood Dale pupils interview John Heppell MP

Greenwood Dale's School Report Day

Greenwood Dale School in Sneinton has made the news by reporting it.

Students in Sneinton have taken part in a very special activity - one never tried before.

A group of 12 and 13 year olds at Greenwood Dale School were news reporters all day. It's all part of the BBC's School Report project.

For the past few weeks teachers and children have been following lesson plans designed by the BBC showing the pupils what skills a journalist needs.

Every journalist needs a way of capturing a story. With that in mind, BBC Radio Nottingham loaned the school state of the art mobile phones. These not only take pictures and video... but also offer allow sound recording and editing.

The devices are exactly the same as they ones used by staff at BBC Radio Nottingham and allow news reporters to record, edit, and send back material, remotely.

The Greenwood Dale reporters had until 3.00pm on their News Day (Thursday 22 March, 2007) to find stories, gather interviewers, pictures and video and publish their material.

To assist a BBC mentor had been coaching the teachers and children since the beginning of 2007.
