Three years ago East Midlands Airport had a name change. Nottingham was put in to the airport's title despite it being located in Leicestershire and more than 13 miles from the centre of Nottingham. The name change has always been controversial, particularly for the people of Derbyshire and Leicestershire. Now bosses say they are changing the name again following responses by people to the airport's master plan proposals. Jon Collins, Nottingham City Council leader, says about the name change: "This is a completely bizarre decision commercially, and I'm surprised that anybody calling themselves a manager has actually made it." The airport's managing director Penny Coates, defends the decision: "The reason the name change has taken place is a business decision, it's not up to consultation... "We need to recognise the vibrance and the great work that the three cities have done together and promote the whole of the East Midlands." A waste of moneyWhen news originally broke in October about a possible name change our vote came out in favour of Nottingham East Midlands Airport. But East Midlands Airport was comfortably second with a sizeable score. Now the airport is set to incorporate all the region's major cities in its title. It could well be known as East Midlands Airport - Derby, Leicester, Nottingham. So will this keep everyone happy or is it too much of a mouthful? Use our messageboards to comment.
