Jeans
Denim - your friend for all occasions!

It's in the jeans!

Gemma Clements & Lynne Peachey
Denim is the fabric that can be your best friend for all occasions and never goes out of fashion.

Denim, surprisingly, isn’t just about the past seasons cowboy trends, Oh no! You don’t have to be down on the ranch! Denim can be your best friend for all occasions, jeans, jackets, skirt’s, bags the possibilities for this versatile material are endless.

Denim is one colour, shape and fabric which has never simply gone out of fashion but revolved with the times and reinvented and revived itself in new ways.

Status Quo - Legends of denim!

The catwalk continually features a variation of denim coupled with all kinds of material, teamed with contrasting fits and fabrics in a variety of spectacular colours.

Both designers and high street outlets have manage to shatter the illusion that denim is exclusively labour wear but instead has evolved to become a high fashion signature piece. Originally designed as a hardwearing multipurpose material with a functional purpose rather than a style statement, denim now signifies modern designer shapes and is accepted even revered for any occasion.

So why do we come back to our old faithfuls?

"Jeans can be ripped at the knee, frayed at the hem or splattered with bleach or paint to add a distressed and laid back rock feel."

The multitude of images are accessible daily in the newspapers or glossy magazines depicting celebrities or famous faces donning the latest twist to the denim market.

Celebrities such as Sienna Miller and Kate Moss wear their same style of jean for any occasion and manage to pull this seemingly faux pas off by constantly updating their jeans wear with accessories. By adding a twist, funky flat biker boots over drainpipe jeans a la Kate Moss or by adding some interesting extras, a floppy fedora hat, an oversized handbag or a funky belt worn low on the hips - Jeans can be made individual.

Jeans can be made an individual style statement and everyone likes to be unique and stand apart from the crowd. Designers set the trends but it is often the individual twists on these ideas which create true fashion. By customising your jeans wear you can display your own personalised preferences at a minimal cost whilst also transforming a seemingly plain item of clothing into something which is worthy of any style icon.

Customised denim

Jeans can be ripped at the knee, frayed at the hem or splattered with bleach or paint to add a distressed and laid back rock feel. They can be patched or sewn to customise and create a new jean innovation.

Jackets can be fastened with safety pins or adorned with pin badges or broaches to jazz up an otherwise generic item. Skirts can be worn cut off and with the lowest of thick belts or scarves, teamed with tights and boots or even trainers to really make this image wholly your own. There is no need to ever throw out old jeans wear for it can be continually renewed and created afresh.

The high street has been forced to recognise the popularity of the jean for all occasions and has come up trumps with its selection. There really is something for everyone but even if there isn’t, there are no rules so you should feel free to create something your own. It really is a denim invasion!
