What better way to parody TV soaps than have a cast brimming with TV soap actors? There's Paul Fox (Mike Baldwin's son Mark in Coronation Street and Dr Jeffrey Goodwin in The Royal), Lucy Speed (Natalie in EastEnders), Mark Bannerman (Gianni di Marco in EastEnders) and Janice McKenzie (Gloria Weaker in Emmerdale). The play itself is packed with those cliff-hanger moments and knowing looks that are the mainstay of our favourite soaps. It follows star-crossed lovers Lorna (Lucy Speed), a barmaid at The Duke's Head in Arthur Street in the East End, and Thorn (Paul Fox), a hunky surfer dude from Crystal Bay. When a face from the past returns to The Duke's Head, Lorna is forced to confront her life and secrets are uncovered. Wormhole in spaceAfter an unscripted visit to the cellar, she finds a wormhole on space that transports her to sunny Crystal Bay where Thorn is preparing to marry his childhood sweetheart Noleen. Their two worlds collide and chaos ensues. Will their love survive, or will everything fall apart before the final credits roll? Paul Fox and Lucy Speed have recently been proving soap actors can 'do' Shakespeare by appearing in Twelfth Night at the Royal. |
