Experience performance art of the future as music, video and computer programming comes together for a unique internet-based concert. Liam Wells and Tom Simmons of n0media have been bringing digital artists together to work in a series of monthly performances called WebJams since June 2003.
These performances have taken place in local and national venues, connected by internet technologies.
The artist collaborations that contribute to the WebJams are then relayed live on the group's website to an international audience. Following a six-week residency of the Decentred improvisation exhibition at the Norwich Gallery earlier this year, n0media have now curated two multimedia performances and a global web conference to take place at the Norwich Arts Centre in July.

Tom Simmons is the project's co-programmer. "Following the success of the original Decentred exhibition, the Norwich Arts Centre (NAC) commissioned us to produce two further multi-media performances for the web. "It's a great opportunity to showcase some of the new developments and contributions from a network of performers that are part of a global community linked through the internet," he said. The two performance events at the NAC will feature digital multi-media improvisations by artists, musicians, writers and programmers. The global web conference will bring these practitioners and theorists together to discuss topical on networked multimedia performance. Liam Well of n0media said the event is an opportunity for local people to have first-hand experience of the potential uses of the internet. "It's an opportunity for people who live in Norfolk to take part in a cutting-edge digital art event," he said. "It's the chance for people to experience the web being used in a new way and to contribute to the increasing body of opinion surrounding internet use," he added. Free Entry The creation of a local network to allow a group of improvisers to share video, sound and performance data with each other in a unique way. Using customised instruments and performance interfaces players develop shared streams of information in a sequence of solo and group performances. Free Entry On the evening of Thursday 22nd July 2004 Decentred will host a remote distributed network performance from Norwich Arts Centre. Musicians, video and media artists from Kingston (Canada), Den Haag (Netherlands), London, Newcastle upon Tyne and Norwich will collide in a specially curated internet domain to perform a distributed improvisation. Audio and video streams generated by these performers will be shared across the web and developed in the different remote locations at which they arrive. All of the material produced during this performance will be collected in Norwich where it will be mixed and presented to a local audience, and on the internet by n0media.
