Whether you're keen to find out about the treasures which have been unearthed in Norfolk or want to offer your memory of a great gig, then there's the chance to get involved with local history at a special event.

The BBC is hosting a local history weekend at The Forum, Norwich, on Saturday, 8 and Sunday, 9 September, 2007.

Entry is free, with visitors able to meet historians, browse stalls and watch local films between 10am and 4pm in the atrium.

One of the highlights will be the unveiling of around 80 films by Norwich Market stallholders.

The series, Hot In Summer, Cold In Winter, has been produced by the community-based project BBC Voices and features each stage of the market's controversial redevelopment.

The films will be on show during the weekend - with visitors able to see the changing face of one of Norwich's oldest landmarks.

Mascot Coaches

An appeal for people who remember long-established firm Mascot Coaches will also be running. Between the 1920s and '70s - during the days when a lot of people didn't have cars - Mascot's took people on day-trips, holidays and to Norwich City games.

Jill Howard, whose father Leonard Votier started the company, has written a book about her family and the firm, but she's still looking for more stories and will be on hand over the weekend.

Event visitors

Visitors will also be able to talk to people from organisations including Norwich Young Archaeologists, East Anglian Music Archive, Fakenham Gas Museum, country music group Rig-A-Jig-Jig and UK Villages.

Make your mark with Memoryshare

If you can't make this weekend's event you can always make your mark on local history by entering your stories on BBC Memoryshare.

It's a new web service that will gradually piece together an intriguing people's history of Britain, based on your experiences.

With a timeline running from 1 January, 1900 onwards - you can post a memory or observation relating to any day.

An escape from a World War Two bombing is an experience which has left a lasting impression on Tortyson, who lived in a small Norfolk village at the time, and has written about the 1941 event on Memoryshare.

"Dad shouted, 'We've had it tonight!' and threw the bedcovers and then himself on top of me. There followed a series of explosions but nothing hit us and we fell back in relief."
