Tens of thousands of people took to the streets to take part in the Great North Run this weekend.

It is a running race that is held every year that starts in Newcastle and finishes in South Shields.

Loads of people are involved in the race and there's always some fancy outfits, some REALLY speedy runners and some famous faces too.

So let's take a look at some of this year's best bits!

What is the Great North Run?

The first Great North Run race took place in 1981 and over 12,000 runners took part.
Yesterday was the 45th time the famous half marathon has been held and A LOT more people were involved!
More than 63,000 people entered the race this year.
A half marathon is 13.1 miles long (that's just over 21km).
The run is also known for its huge contribution to charity, with runners raising millions for charity each year.

And it's not just those taking part in the run who show up.
Thousands of friends and family pack the streets of the race to cheer their loved ones on.

Brigid Kosgei, an Olympic silver medallist and former London marathon winner, was the fastest woman in one hour, six minutes and 15 seconds.
American Zouhair Talbi won the men's race with a time of 59:47.
Melanie Woods was the women's wheelchair race winner in a time of 50:19.
And David Weir won his 10th Great North Run title in the men's wheelchair race as he finished in 43:06.
