Hearts-break for fans as Shankland joins Rangers

Scotland striker Lawrence Shankland says he is living his "dream" after joining Rangers from Hearts.

The move is extra special for Shankland because he says Rangers was the team he supported as a child, and he was part of the youth system there before being released at the age of 12.

Speaking to Rangers TV, he said: "Rangers is my boyhood club and it has always been a dream to play here, so I was really keen to get it done."

He's leaving Hearts after scoring 16 goals in the Premiership this season, as the Edinburgh club came close to winning the title.

The two clubs have not revealed the transfer fee, and the 30-year-old has signed a two-year contract, with the option of another year.

Shankland has become one of the best strikers in Scotland during his four seasons at Hearts.

He scored 88 goals in 171 games, including four against Rangers in the 2025/26 season.

Shankland captained Hearts to a second place finish in the Scottish Premiership - Hearts narrowly missed out on the title to Celtic on the final day, while Rangers finished third.

New Rangers head coach Danny Rohl praised his new signing, saying: "He is a player with proven quality, leadership and work ethic - and his goalscoring record in Scotland speaks for itself."

Shankland will now join up with the Scotland national team squad ahead of the World Cup.
