Which books can you get your hands on for free for World Book Day 2027?

Right everyone, this is not a drill, it's time to start thinking about what you want to dress up as for World Book Day next year - and this year the event is 30 years old!

On the rare chance you've never heard of the day let alone experienced it, we've got you covered.

It's a day that celebrates the power of reading and millions of children from 100 countries all over the world get involved - and a fair few of them get dressed up too!

It takes place each year on the first Thursday of March, the charity behind it puts together a collection of books which you can get hold of for free using a special token and they've just unveiled which books are on that list.

Read on to find out which books are in the collection this time round.

For World Book Day 2027, there will be a collection of 18 books which you can choose from, with ones for those who are new to reading to others for those who are a little more confident.

You can use a token from National Book Tokens to get your hands on one of the books, or use that voucher to get money off another book of your choice.

In the collection there are books in English, Irish, Welsh and for the first time Scottish Gaelic - which books you can get depends on where you live.

Why is World Book Day celebrated?

World Book Day was created to celebrate books and get more children reading for fun.

The charity behind World Book Day is celebrating its 30th year.

New research from the National Literacy Trust shows that reading enjoyment in children and young people has improved for the first time since 2021, with now more than one in three of you enjoying reading in your own time.

Fiona Hickley, who works for World Book Day, says while they are proud of what they've achieved they "know there is still much more to do".

The charity says they want every child to be able to choose, own and enjoy a book, but at this point nearly one million children in the UK don't own one.
