UK experiences hottest June day on record

Have you been managing to keep cool in the heat this week?
Some schools closed their doors after days of hot weather across the UK.
According to the Met Office, Thursday was the hottest June day on record, with temperatures at Merryfield, Somerset reaching 36.7C.
It also makes it the hottest day of 2026 so far.

A rare red weather warning remains in place for London and parts of south-eastern England until Friday night.
Wales recorded its hottest June day on record after temperatures of 35.9C were recorded in Bute Park, Cardiff.
That beats the previous record of 33.7C recorded in Powys in 2000.
Northern Ireland also recorded its joint hottest June day on record, and the hottest June day in 50 years this week while Scotland recorded its hottest day of 2026.
