Police station closures

For some people, they are a waste of money and an unwanted legacy of the past.

Others believe they are an essential bulwark against terrorism and crime - two diverse responses to the police proposal to close more than a third of its stations over the next two years.

Senior officers say they are wasting millions of pounds each year on the upkeep of stations they don't use or need.

They'll ask the policing board this week to endorse the plan to close and sell off 26 stations to start with.
