BBC NewslineYou are in: BBC Newsline > The soldier's family ![]() The soldier's familyWith the help of the Public Records Office, we managed to track down the surviving relatives of Robert Kelly Pollin, but do they remember him? And do they know how his headstone ended up in a river? The first place our search took us was to an office in Belfast City Centre, where Robert had trained as a solicitor's apprentice before he was sent to war. ![]() James Pollin There we found two of Robert's great-nephews who still work in the building today. They knew they had a relative who had died in the Great War and there were even some reminders of their ancestor in the office, including a large photograph of Robert in uniform. However, brothers James and Stuart Pollin were not aware of any link to the Mournes in the Pollin family, and said their father rarely talked to them about the man he had been named after. He put us in contact with their aunt Juliann Pollin, and through her we met another four of Robert's nieces. None of them could help us solve our mystery but all wanted to find out more about what happened to the uncle their grieving family had rarely talked about.
