Barack Obama paid tribute to Peter Robinson and Martin McGuinness as he welcomed Irish Americans and politicians from both sides of the border to a St Patrick's Day reception in the Whitehouse. In a party atmosphere reminiscent of celebrations during the Clinton administration, the President told his invited guests that they could stay as long as they wanted but joked that they should try to avoid putting lampshades on their heads.
