Down company was asked to produce a short film highlighting a very serious issue "It came as a call out of the blue" - that's how Joel Simon, Creative Director of Flickerpi,x described the call from the Comic Relief team. Flickerpix have been creating short films for a number of years now. Initially children's films were the staple fare, but after a commission from BBC Northern Ireland things really started to take off. Days Like This was a major turning point for the company, turning from lighthearted children's comedy to powerful tales of personal experience. The series was a hit here and further afield, with broadcasters up and down the UK watching with an interest. This interest was shared by the Comic Relief tea,m who wanted a hard-hitting animation to show the plight of those affected by malaria. It was a big project with a short timescale and the team had to dig deep to finish on time, with some members working to 4am to ensure the deadline was met but if you were to ask any of them you'd get the same reply - it was well worth it.
