M2 traffic chaos

It was a nightmare journey for thousands, a Sunday drive which turned into a major traffic jam.

A spokesman for the Roads Service says that the closure of a stretch of the M2 at the weekend was unavoidable.

It was shut for re-surfacing on the citybound lanes into Belfast, forcing motorists to divert through Glengormley.

Drivers were held up for hours, some missed flights and ferries, while young children were forced to use the hard shoulder as a makeshift toilet.
