What's gone wrong with the Republic's economy?

The Irish Government is to press ahead with a controversial plan to make public service workers pay more for their pensions. It says it needs the money to fill a two billion euro hole in Government finances caused by the global downturn.

It's not so long ago the Republic's huge economic growth was held up as an example for other countries to follow. Now, desperate times call for desperate measures as the Irish Government faces up to a massive shortfall between what it takes in taxes and what it spends.

Julie Kirby has been examining what has gone wrong, and asks what hope is there now for Ireland Inc.
