Eames Bradley payment recommendation

The families of those killed in the Troubles - including relatives of dead IRA members and loyalist paramilitaries - will receive a payment of £12,000 if the recommendations of a major report on the legacy of violence in Northern Ireland are accepted

The proposal, set to cost £40 million, is only one of a raft of measures
recommended by a government-appointed group which has also proposed a Legacy Commission to take over the investigation of unsolved killings.

But the plan to treat bereaved relatives equally, regardless of the role their loved one played in the Troubles, is likely to prove one of the most controversial.

It is understood the Consultative Group on the Past led by former Church of Ireland Primate Lord Robin Eames and former Northern Ireland police board Vice Chairman Denis Bradley wanted to end the so-called "hierarchy of victims", on the understanding that the pain of all those bereaved is equal.

Eames and Bradley need to apologize to Northern Ireland victims for their ignorant, stupid suggestion that terrorist relatives should be paid £12000 to help them get over their "hurt" during 30 years of killing, maiming and destruction of property. These two "men" and their support committee are in need of psychiatric investigation. The fact is that most of the terrorists' relatives supported their horrific activities. I fail to understand how victims who lost loved ones, others who lost limbs and others who lost their mind, etc, etc are expected to understand and accept this depraved recommendation.Should the terrorists who planted the 300lb Car Bomb in the Co. Down village of Castlewellen this week-end be hunted down and rewarded with £12,000 each? The Omagh bomb weighed 500lb so the current one at 300lb could have caused numerous deaths, maiming and destruction.Words now fail me.

Re: Compensation for victims & no 'hierarchy' of victims... All very commendable ... a gesture to ALL families who suffered a loss ... but what about those victims who didn't die? Who still carry the physical & mental pain & scars of the troubles around with them today. Don't they matter?????

I Welcome the proposals to financially support those who lost loved ones in the troubles as was reported on tonights show, but I cant understand why every family in Northern Ireland cant receive £12000 support as we were all victims of the conflict

The families of the Lynah Gang recieved £10,000 cmpensation for the killing of their relatives...So why didnt the Unionists kick up about that?

Alan Rintoul
Why has money entered in to this situation? It has absolutely nothing to do with healing the past and as we all know will not bring back loved ones. I am suprised that these two eminent men lack the wisdom to see this.

Jonny
Disgusting that victims are treated the same as the murderers.

The money would help genuine victims but the terrorists who contributed to our troubles should get nothing. Don,t reward murderers.
