Jobless Figures

Yet again jobless figure makes grim reading. The numbers out today are further evidence - if any were needed - of the seriousness of the recession we're entering.

In the last year the number of people out of a job has gone up by a massive 50%. We haven't seen such a rise in a single year since during the Troubles, in the early seventies.

BBC Newsline spoke to some jobseekers to find out how they were feeling about finding a job. They were surprisingly optimistic, although most recognised that they were not facing an easy task.

Annette O'Hagan

BBC Newsline's Laura Burns spoke to Annette O'Hagan about what it is like to look for work as a lone parent who has been out of the jobs market for several years.
