White collar workers

With the UK officially moving into recession this week, a local economist has told BBC Newsline he believes this financial downslide will hit people involved in professional or non-manual jobs more than ever before.

On Friday's BBC Newsline the Employment Minister Sir Reg Empey predicted that fifteen thousand people could find themselves out of a job this year.

The Bank of Ireland is forecasting a similar loss. Our business correspondent Kevin Magee spoke to Alan Bridle from the Bank of Ireland to find out more.

I think a lot of employers are taking advantage of the current situation and laying off staff forcing remaining employees 2 do extra work! I've been told this by lots of people!
