Family Focus

In this weeks Family Focus we look at the Community Befriending Scheme

Statistics from Age Concern though show quite a lot of older people here - over 93 thousand in total - live alone. Especially at this time of the year many of them can feel extremely isolated.

But there is a new pilot scheme in the Newtownabbey area that's seeking to change that. The Community Befriending Scheme aims to provide support to the 60+ age group on a one to one basis, offering companionship, trust and support.

Sarah Travers reports.
