Autumn presents problems for the people who run our train system.

Although fallen leaves might seem an insignificant threat to something as big as a train, in fact they form a mulch on the track that can prove dangerous if not treated.

Every night, while most of us are asleep, Translink workers are busy at work cleaning the tracks and treating them to make them safe and try to ensure the trains run on time.

Francis Gorman spent a cold night with them for BBC Newsline.
