Sending the Sick Away

Imagine your daughter is sick and needs specialist hospital treatment

Imagine then that she can only be treated in England and you can only see her once a month. That's exactly what has happened to a Dungannon mother. And she's not alone.

Her daughter has a personality disorder and there is very little specialist help available here to treat sufferers. We've discovered that 17 people with personality disorders were sent to England for treatment last year. The Human Rights Commission believes this is a breach of human rights which needs urgent review.

UPDATE:

A second woman whose daughter has a personality disorder has been in touch with BBC Newsline. Her daughter has been in a hospital in England for nearly five years. She agreed to speak to Tara Mills on condition of anonymity.
