New 20mph zones for Bath villages proposed

  • Published

People living and working in villages on the outskirts of Bath are being asked their opinion on a proposed 20mph speed limit.

The zone would include parts of Bathampton, Batheaston, and Bathford, as well as Beckford Gardens, near Sydney Gardens.

Leaflets are being sent out in the areas concerned and people have until 12 April to give their views.

The scheme will only operate on residential streets and not main roads.

A Bath and North East Somerset Council spokesman said: "No traffic calming measures will be introduced in combination with the introduction of the limits and the scheme will avoid using over intrusive signage.

"The move is part of a £500,000 scheme across the district for safer speed limits."

Last year a 20mph zone came into force in the Twerton area of the city.
