Donald Trump is now speaking and thanks the Irish taoiseach. He says the pair have been friends "since the beginning" and they have a great relationship.

The pair share a joke as they speak about the Irish Open, which Trump will be attending later today and tomorrow.

Trump says the leaders have had discussions on trade and that the US has a great relationship with Ireland.

"It has never been as good as it is right now," he says as he thanks the taoiseach for hosting him.

We're currently listening into a sit-down conversation between Taoiseach (Irish Prime Minister) Micheál Martin and Donald Trump.

Martin pays tribute to those who lost their lives during 9/11, and remembers the "bravery and sacrifice" of first responders.

He says he's "particularly pleased" Trump has made it to Ireland for the Irish Open golf tournament, referencing a "very strong sporting relationship" between the two countries.

He also praises the "strength of the economic relationship" between the US and Ireland, saying he is "very pleased" to welcome Trump to Ireland.

Donald Trump is now at Farmleigh House for his meeting with the taoiseach.

The presidential limousine, nicknamed The Beast, is getting some TLC while Donald Trump speaks with Taoiseach Micheál Martin inside Farmleigh House.

President Trump was greeted outside Farmleigh House by Taoiseach (Irish Prime Minister) Micheál Martin and his wife Mary.

They then went inside to begin their bilateral meeting.

US President Donald Trump stepped off Air Force One shortly after 08:30 at Dublin Airport before being greeted by Ireland’s deputy premier Simon Harris.

Trump's motorcade then made its way to Áras an Uachtaráin, the official residence of the President of Ireland, in Phoenix Park where he was met by the Irish President Catherine Connolly.

He is now on his way to meet Irish premier Micheál Martin, the Taoiseach, at the Farmleigh Estate, which is also within the park's boundary.

Here's a reminder of what else the president will do in Ireland today:

• Trump will head to Deerfield Residence, the official residence of the US ambassador to Ireland, to greet embassy staff and business leaders
• The president will head back to Dublin Airport before flying to Shannon Airport in the west of the Ireland
• Trump will head to the Trump International Golf Club in Doonbeg where he will attend the Irish Open

He is due to meet Taoiseach (Irish Prime Minister) Micheál Martin for a bilateral meeting.

Catherine Connolly and Donald Trump have now emerged from Áras an Uachtaráin following their meeting.

As the president was making his way to his vehicle, some members of the press shouted questions and he stopped to answer some of them.

When asked about the situation in Iran, he responded: "Everything will work out fine."

While President Trump meets the Irish president, preparations are well under way at nearby Farmleigh House where he is due to meet Taoiseach Micheál Martin for a bilateral meeting later this morning.

The red carpet was being hoovered at Farmleigh earlier this morning, with a band rehearsing.

There is dozens of media gathered here awaiting the arrival of President Trump.

After the guard of honour, Irish President Catherine Connolly introduced President Donald Trump to a number of Irish dignitaries.

The US side then did the same, with Connolly shaking hands with a number of people including Trump's son Donald Trump Jr.

The two presidents then returned inside for a private courtesy call between the two.

Both President Trump and President Catherine Connolly have now come back out of Áras an Uachtaráin.

The national anthems of both the United States and the Republic of Ireland were played, with Trump given a guard of honour by members of the Irish military.

Donald Trump’s first port of call is the residence of Irish President Catherine Connolly.

Her role is largely ceremonial, but that’s the part of the visit which might have a bit of diplomatic jeopardy, because she is a long-standing critic of US foreign policy and military action in the Middle East.

In her election campaign last year, where she was backed by a coalition of left-wing parties, she said Mr Trump was acting like a bully.
