Funboys series 2 first look clip featuring Steve Coogan and new artwork released, with spin-off YouTube series confirmed
The soft bellied boys of Ballymacnoose are back
A first look clip and new artwork for the upcoming second series of the award-winning comedy Funboys has been released, made by Mayhay Studios, the production company run by the BAFTA-award winning producer of This Country and writer of Can You Keep A Secret? Simon Mayhew-Archer. Funboys Series Two is a 4 x 30’ comedy series made for BBC Three, BBC Northern Ireland and BBC iPlayer, with support from Northern Ireland Screen.
Funboys Series Two stars Ryan Dylan, Rian Lennon, Lee R James and Ele McKenzie, with the award-winning actor Steve Coogan joining the series. Returning cast members also include Brian Devlin, Owen Colgan, Paul Bazely and Richard Croxford. Alongside Steve Coogan, Nicky Harley, Saorlaoith Brady, Lalor Roddy, Donal O’Hanlon and Amanda Doherty have joined the cast of this series.
The soft bellied boys of Ballymacnoose are back. After last year, tackling the weight of grief and suppository drugs, the gang have come out the other side all grown up. Callum’s trying out a lovely perm, Gemma and Lorcan are smooching seven times a day, and it's been four months since Jordan’s last full throated screaming strop with his Daddies. Things are bright in Ballymacnoose.
But dark clouds loom! The gang belatedly get involved in The Great Irish Potato Famine and it's all down-hill from there. Bigotry, balding and competitive robot combat, if they aren’t careful the funboys are about to become the doneboys. Aghh!

Will the soft kindness of their Teletubby hearts overcome the colonial scars of the past? Is Jordan losing his hair or is it, as he insists, just a double crown? Are the close-minded people of Ballymacnoose ready for Lorcan to explore previously uncharted territory in the love department? Is Lorcan even ready? Who’s exploring Lorcan’s departments? Aghh!
To accompany the second series, the BBC has announced a brand-new spin-off series from the creators of Funboys - Fair Game: A video game review show presented by Funboys. The show is hosted by three of the biggest, coolest gamers in Ballymacnoose, and Gemma. Sponsored by Jordan's daddies, who bought him the microphones, Jordan and Callum host with our lovely permanent on-site guest Lorcan and resident Gamer Girl Gemma (GG, GGG). Watch these funboys eat, sleep and, most importantly, PLAY videogames.
With celebrity guest Roger Craig Smith (Sonic the Hedgehog, Assassin's Creed, Resident Evil), expect heated debates, thoughtful insights and expert opinions on things like ‘is it healthy for people to play life simulators, especially men in their late 20’s who haven’t fully matured in adult life?’ and 'does Herdy Gerdy have better storytelling than the Last of Us Part 2?”
Executive Producer, Simon Mayhew-Archer of Mayhay Studios says: “I love making this show with the gang and am extremely grateful to the BBC for continuing to back new comic talent. My favourite sitcom of all time is ‘I'm Alan Partridge’ so to get to work with Steve Coogan was the second best day of my life (first was when I went to Silverstone and shook Jackie Stewart's hand. Superb)."

Steve Coogan, says: “I loved working with them. They are an original voice in comedy and they have bright futures ahead of them. Properly funny fellas. Rian’s direction was clear and confident, always on the money. Sorry this reads like a reference. The point is they know what they’re doing.”
Funboys Series Two (4 x 30’) is a Mayhay Studios production for BBC Three, BBC Northern Ireland and BBC iPlayer, with support from Northern Ireland Screen. The series is written by Rian Lennon and Ryan Dylan, who serve as executive producers. Simon Mayhew-Archer also serves as an executive producer. The director is Rian Lennon and the series is produced by Lauriel Martin. The series was ordered by Jon Petrie, BBC Director of Comedy and Eddie Doyle, Senior Head of Content Commissioning for BBC Northern Ireland. The commissioning editors for the BBC are Navi Lamba, Seb Barwell and Jason Butler.
Fair Game: A video game review show presented by Funboys, is part of the BBC's strategy to commission content for YouTube - with short-form, personality-driven content that is designed to engage new audiences both on YouTube and BBC iPlayer.
