Title: Bombed out
Cathy Malcolm's life was changed by the Manchester bomb in 1996. She lost her business and her personality changed, going from thrill seeker to virtual recluse. She feels bitter about the way she and fellow traders in the Corn Exchange were treated after the bomb and also thinks Manchester has lost something of its creative heart.

I think Cathy is so right…Manchester lost something special when the Corn Exchange was redeveloped into another soul less shopping precinct for people with more money, than sense. I also had a small business in the Corn Exchange and the rush to relieve us of our Lord Mayors Appeal funding grant was sickening. There were two choices, both totally unsuitable; you either went for the Coliseum or the building at the bottom of Oldham Street. Against my better judgement we went for the Coliseum and the talk went from rescuing our businesses to see how much they could make off us, in less than five minuets. The Corn Exchange like Afflecks Palace was somewhere that shoppers could go to get something a little different as opposed to the 20 major retailers that all sell the same products. While I’m ranting, what in Gods name did they replace that wonderful old garden in Piccadilly for with that concrete, uninteresting, same as every where else space for?
