Like most pregnant women, Elaine hoped she'd be a good parent and take easily to her new role as a mother.

But after giving birth, something she had not anticipated took hold of her. She suffered from puerperal psychosis, one of the most severe forms of post-natal depression and was eventually hospitalised.
