The concourse at Piccadilly

The concourse at Piccadilly

Satisfied with our stations?

A survey of train passengers has revealed that Manchester Piccadilly is the nation’s favourite station, with a massive 92 percent saying they were satisfied with the overall environment – but are you happy with the rest of Manchester’s stations?

The survey of 25,000 travellers, conducted by the national rail consumer watchdog Passenger Focus, placed Piccadilly top, with five percent more than the second placed Glasgow Central, 11 percent more than its nearest English rival, Leeds, and a whopping 32 percent higher than the national average!

Victoria Station

Victoria Station: in need of a face-lift?

Thanks to the £100m make-over it has received, which began at the start of the decade for the 2002 Commonwealth Games, the modern Piccadilly train station is a slick mix of shiny concourses, shops and funky horizontal escalators, more than capable with dealing with the 22m passengers it received last year.

However, the survey only covered the nation’s 20 busiest stations, which meant that the others in Greater Manchester weren’t included, so while Piccadilly has a high satisfaction rating, how do the other stations in the area rate? Are you satisfied with your local station?

Have Your Say

What do you think of your local station?

I arranged to meet some people at 10am at Clifton Station (Salford) only to find there was only one train per day each direction. Yet the Bolton to Manchester line is one of the busiest in the country! Surely a few more trains could pause for the minute necessary for someone to use this station more often.

The Barkers
I can confirm on behalf of the Barker family; that piccadilly desrves the top spot. Simon absolutely loves it.

Kate Williams
Manchester Victoria does not need a face-lift.

Chris Peers
I was going to say that Victoria Station is a civic disgrace, but clearly everyone feels the same!

brendan
paid my first visit to the new bus station at shudehill last weekend. Was not impressed at all. i found the building very dark, dingy and didn't feel safe at all. if victoria station is the get a face lift the architects would do well to take inspiration from piccadilly station as opposed to the shudehill bus station

rod
my local station is a disgrace, unmanned, dirty, run down (and that is the good bits)my station is eccles

Griff
I believe Victoria station is shortly to undergo a similar revamp internally, while maintaining the wonderful exterior facade. (Frank Peate: you're not seriously suggesting Piccadilly was a better station pre-2002 are you?)

Chris Maddocks
It's a train station for gods sake, does it really matter what it looks like?

Ms Jenkins
I commute to and from Victoria Station on a daily basis and it really is a disgrace. When its raining i.e often, the roof is leaky. Workign late is a real worry for me as the station is very badly lit and doesn't feel at all safe. I wish that some money would be headed towards victoria station.

Frank Peate
I worked on Piccadilly Station from 1979 to 1997.All it is now is a glorified shopping centre!!!!

Mr MJG
Victoria Station is a disgrace. They renovated it a few years ago, only to make it look like a factory full of dark n dingy spaces. When you stand on the platforms, you feel like you could get mugged at any timeIt's a blot on Manchesters landscape

Peter Castree
The Metrolink section of Manchester Victoria Station badly needs improving. The current state of the old canopy is a disgrace and the decrepit state of this part of the station is made all the more obvious by comparison with the new Piccadilly Station across town.
