Proposed gas-guzzler charge will "affect the whole of us"

Ken Livingston's proposed congestion increases for 'gas-guzzlers' will affect more than drivers of 4x4s, warns mayoral hopeful Winston McKenzie...

Ken Livingston's pledge to increase congestion charges for 'gas-guzzlers' has been attacked my mayoral hopeful Winston McKenzie.

The former boxer joined forces with Kevin Baird, MD of City Surfacing, to condemn the proposed 'tax'. At a press conference this week, Winston warned Londoners that not only drivers of the infamous 4x4 will be penalised.

"The charge that they are putting on don't just affect the 4x4, it affects people driving 2-litre Mondeos, it affects the whole of us and, I feel that the situation now needs to be taken in hand.

"The general public need to be aware of how they're been conned and tricked out of their livelihood by the present mayor." said Mr McKenzie.

His views were echoed by Kevin Baird: "I think it's very unfair on the people that work in London and who use similar vehicles for their work i.e. small builders and whatever, because it's still going to hit them the same."

The charge could cost anything up to £120 per week which, Mr Baird argues, will have a significant impact on businesses, some of which will not be able to pass on the increase.

This is just one of the reasons why, according to Mr McKenzie, if he should become the next Mayor of London, he will halt the spread of the congestion charge.
