A Living Portrait - Antony Gormley's One & Other

Rachel Wardell from Sleaford was the first official participant to take her place on the plinth in Trafalgar Square as part of Antony Gormley's living portrait of the UK.

Antony Gormley is using the empty Fourth Plinth in Trafalgar Square as a base for the participants to represent humanity and the diverse population of the UK. The Fourth Plinth in Trafalgar Square will host the 2400 participants who include: A housewife from Sleaford, a nurse from Brighton, and a Sri Lankan student from London.

Rachel Wardell, a 35 year-old housewife from Sleaford, was the first participant to take her place on the plinth at 9am on the 6 July. The project, which is commissioned by the Mayor of London and produced in partnership with Sky Arts will see a different person take their place on the Fourth Plinth every hour, 24 hours a day for 100 days.

Watch the first eight hours of the 'Plinth Project' in forty seconds.
