The Brayford Pool in Lincoln boasts a variety of wildlife, including swans, birds, insects and fish as well as some very rare plant life. The swans breed upstream on the River Witham and then move down to the Brayford Pool area, tempted by food provided by tourists and locals. Each year up to 130 swans will make the pool their home. Fish in the Brayford include roach, common bream, tench and pike. Sadly, a problem with litter in the Brayford Pool and the connecting Fossdyke Canal, is putting this wildlife at risk. Help playing audio/video LitterCatherine Garwell contacted BBC Lincolnshire with her concerns about the litter in the Brayford and also submitted a video highlighting the problem. ![]() Rubbish in the Brayford Pool 'This video shows the awful mess on the Lincoln Brayford situated just below the High Bridge Cafe, leading into the town centre. This video was taken on the afternoon of the 13th May 2009. As you will see in the video the swans were eating within the rubbish in this area. The rubbish identified in the water included takeaway containers, cigarette ends, plastic bottles, caps/carrier bags, beer cans, some black rope and amongst the debris was a floating dead pigeon.'
