Unclaimed Benefits

Residents in Lincolnshire are being reminded to claim all the benefits they are entitled to as the recession begins to affect everybody after the Christmas celebrations.

Lincolnshire County Council has joined forces with partners to urge everyone – particularly older people – to apply for their entitlement as part of the countywide Everybody Benefits campaign.

Nationally, about £6bn goes unclaimed every year in benefits, including about £2bn in Pension Credit alone. This equates to about £27m in unclaimed Pension Credit in Lincolnshire.

Graham Marsh, executive councillor for Adult Social Care, said: "As the recession begins to hit people in the pocket they will be finding it hard to make ends meet, but there are many who are still missing out on benefits."

To check what benefits you are entitled to, call one of the agencies below for advice and information:

Age Concern – Boston and South Holland 01522 554995/6; Kesteven 01529 302843; Lincoln 01522 527694; Lindsey 01507 524242.

Citizens Advice Bureau – wherever you live in Lincolnshire, just phone 08444 994 199.
