Or maybe you see it being thrown from a car window? And, have you considered the cost of picking it up? Councils are having to spend millions of pounds each year keeping the streets of Lincolnshire clean and tidy. In the City of Lincoln £1,300,000 is spent on routine sweeping and litter picking, with an additional £56,000 being allocated to dealing with fly tipping. East Lindsey spend £1,500,000 on cleaning the streets, beaches, public toilets and tackling fly tipping and in the last two years have issued over 100 fixed penalty notices for dog fouling. A new campaign launched by East Lindsey District Council aims to raise awareness of the problem and encourage people to dispose of their litter properly. BBC Radio Lincolnshire's Scott Dalton has been finding out how Skegness is fighting for freedom from fag ends and chewing gum by employing the services of the Magnificent 7. Do you always put your own litter in a bin or clean up after your dog? Would you tell a stranger to put their rubbish in a bin if you witnessed them dropping litter in the street? Or, do you think your local council should deal more harshly with offenders and prosecute more people? Did you realise the huge costs involved in keeping the streets free of litter and will it make a difference to your attitude in the future. last updated: 09/10/2008 at 14:16 Have Your Saynick metcalfe Jenni Cussell SEE ALSOYou are in: Lincolnshire > Local Issues > features > The cost of rubbish! |
