Alright On The Night!

To celebrate BBC Leicester's 40th birthday De Montfort Hall hosted a musical spectacular! One listener was particularly imoressed with our All-Stars Band performance. Read his review and find out how you can own a piece of the magic.

November marks 40 years of BBC Leicester, the first BBC local radio station in the business!

"The performance couldn't be faulted, even by Simon Cowell from the X-Factor!"

Andy Corbett, BBC Contributor

To celebrate this massive event staff members and local celebs got together for a massive celebration show at De Montfort Hall.

BBC Leicester contributor and TWITS (Tony Wadsworth Is Terrific Society) President Andy Corbett attended the show and was more than impressed...

Andy's Review

I have seen the All-Stars band at Birstall,Thurmaston and Queniborough all of these had been intimate venues and the crowds have been around 250.

Every gig a sellout, some gigs you couldn't even pay to get out. This was a big test for the band playing in front of a sellout crowd of 1800 at the De Montfort Hall.

With so many stars on the bill - Showaddywaddy, Adam Watkiss, Surely Bassey and a duet with Banjo Dez and nine year old Megan English - the All-Stars were just another name on a fabulous line up.

Julie Mayer

I couldn't believe the queues at the door, this was a practice for Christmas shopping. Ticket touts, doormen, ushers, programme sellers.

I was worried about Tony Wadsworth anyway and have been for along while. I thought, "He's out of his depth this time; he'll crack up with nerves or it'll be too much!".

"On Fine Form"

The band were introduced by Julie Mayer in a sparkling short black dress showing legs that Anita Harris would have been proud of.

Tony and the Band came out to warm applause all dressed in Beatle style suits.

They sang Marie's the Name, Apache, Something and Eight Days a Week and left the crowd clapping, cheering and wanting more!

I heard comments like, "Tony's great!", "He can sing!", "He's taller than I thought!" and "He can dance!".

The women on the front row who had saw Englebert on the same stage only days before couldn't take their eyes off Tony.

He was on fine form and was so hot many ladies had to wipe their glasses free from condensation.

To Conclude...

The performance couldn't be faulted, even by Simon Cowell from the X-Factor!

On the way out people were shoving, pushing and queue jumping buying copies of the All-Stars CD.

Where is this all going to end? If there is a Top of the Pops Christmas edition expect the All-Stars on your TV!

Syston and Aylestone are the next venues as Waddomania continues to hit Leicestershire.

Buy your tickets NOW! Miss it miss out!

Own A Piece Of The Magic!

Missed out on tickets for the BBC Leicester Ruby Birthday Show? Or just fancy reliving the night over and over again?

All-Stars or Beatleics?

Beatleics: All-Stars no more!

You can now own versions of the four songs performed by the All-Stars on the night complete with some interesting band chatter between the tracks!

The disc was recorded live at the BBC Leicester Open Centre and includes 'Marie's The Name (Of His Latest Flame)', 'Apache', 'Something' and 'Eight Days A Week'.

The sleeve cover is a nod to the Beatles famous 'Abbey Road' album. Can anyone guess where our version was taken in Leicestershire?

This will the last time you have a chance to own a piece of the All-Stars magic under their current name, as we can exclusively reveal they will from now on be known as Beatleics!

The CD is available now from BBC Leicester Reception for £5.00. All proceeds to benefit the Ruby Rainbow Appeal.
