It will be a case of 'Heigh Ho! Heigh Ho! It's off to panto we go!' at The Carriageworks this Christmas, where Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs has been announced as this year's festive entertainment.

Organisers Leeds City Council and producers Paul Holman Associates (PHA) are on the lookout for some local talent to take part in the show, which will run at the theatre in Millennium Square from Friday 4 December 2009. They are launching a search for an actress from the local area to take the title role in this timeless classic.

Snow White is one of the most popular fairytales of all time and has become a firm favourite amongst pantomime audiences. The original story was anthologised by the Grimm Brothers in the 1820s, but it was the release of the Walt Disney cartoon in 1937 that made the story famous.

It was this version that gave us the iconic silhouette of Snow White's dress, gave the individual dwarves names and such well-known songs as "Whistle While You Work" and the immortal "Heigh Ho".

To be in with a chance of an audition, potential Snow Whites should download an application form from the Carriageworks website and return it by Wednesday 1 July 2009.

Leeds City Council Lead Member for Leisure Councillor Bill Hyde commented: "The Carriageworks panto has become a great tradition over the last couple of years and always provides entertainment for the whole family. This will be a great opportunity for a local actress to take a leading role in her home town. I'm sure audiences will be thrilled to see the results. I can't wait to see the show!”

Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs will run at The Carriageworks Theatre on Millennium Square from Friday 4 December 2009 until Saturday 9 January 2009.
