The curtain goes up on an exciting new place for Leeds artists to display their works… at a city centre theatre, on Friday 14 September 2007. A new visual arts exhibition space is being unveiled at The Carriageworks in Millennium Square for Leeds-based artists to showcase their talents. The Leeds City Council-run theatre has for some time featured artworks from the Leeds Painting and Sketching Club on an ad-hoc basis on the Level Two landing. Now the theatre is providing permanent space around and in the Level Two bar area in response to local demand. This will mean more local artists will see their work on display at the theatre, with exhibitions in the bar area being rotated on a monthly basis. Emma Fotherby's work features next and is and eclectic collection of contemporary images reflecting style and society. Her take on modern life is bright and colourful, fusing fashion, art, architecture, people and nature. She is an artist and photographer from Leeds who graduated with first class honours from Middlesex University and her work will feature at The Carriageworks from Wednesday 17 October - Saturday 17 November 2007. Next to exhibit is Catherine Corfield, who lives in Bramley. Her latest acrylic paintings are inspired by music and her jazz collection is influenced by the excitement and atmosphere of live music, its musicians, lighting, shapes, sounds and tempo. Her exhibition runs from Wednesday 21 November 2007 - Saturday 5 January 2008. Further exhibitions have been lined up for 2008 - check out the website for more details: The BBC is not responsible for the content of external websites last updated: 08/10/07 SEE ALSOYou are in: Leeds > Entertainment > Visual Arts > Art at the Carriageworks External Listings
