Wigton Moor Girls meet a hero

By contributor Howard Bowden
Wigton Moor Girls met football legend Sir Trevor Brooking at England's futsal friendly against France.

Members of Wigton Girls U11 and U12 teams have been attending futsal sessions in Carr Manor School's new sports hall throughout the term. Around 20 girls have enjoyed the regular Monday night coaching provided by FC Barsa's Ben Fox and Bobby Smith, ably assisted by young futsal expert, Dominic Hallas.

Some of the girls took the opportunity to visit the very impressive English Institute of Sport in Sheffield to see England entertain France in an international friendly match. Hopefully, they learned from the technical skills and tactical formations employed.

England began well, soon establishing a 2- 0 lead. Sadly, the superior skills of the French saw 'Les Bleus' emerge as 4-2 winners - c'est la vie.

An unexpected bonus was the chance for the girls to meet the FA's Director Of Football Development, Sir Trevor Brooking - although we had to enlighten most of them about Sir Trevor's outstanding exploits on the pitch for West Ham and England!
