Could Wycoller be the most haunted hamlet in the land with its tales of spectres, poltergeists and headless horsemen..?
Wycoller Hall is said to be the scene for the regular twilight re-enactment of a real life tragedy. Those 'in the know' tell of how the master of the Hall (known as Cunliffe) returned home in a rage one evening having heard that his wife was having an affair with another man.
Showing no mercy, he murdered her and fled from the scene on horseback. Apparently during ghostly re-enactments, bloodcurdling screams can be heard echoing around the village, there is a crack of a whip and the sound of a horse galloping off into the hillside - some have even seen the ghostly spectre.
As if that wasn't enough, 'The Blue Lady' regularly floats from Pearson House (near the tea shop) into the adjoining house. Apparently the two houses used to be one home many years age. It seems 'The Blue Lady' hasn't quite got the hang of it yet!
Wycoller House, next door to the tea shop also has its own ghost but it's not quite as silent as 'The Blue Lady', it's a poltergeist!
