15. Loneliness is better than bad company.

Hello.  It’s me again.  Dónall.  Greetings from the stars!  How are you?  Ca va?  How are you?  Wie geht’s?  Hello. Ciao.  Bonjour.  How are you?  I was rude earlier.

I was broadcasting to you without addressing you.  That was rude of me.  Excuse me.  I forgot.  You understand my case.  There is that much happening.  I am still getting used to this journey in space.  There are that many things happening around me.  There are that many things happening down on the planet.  I was worried I wouldn’t achieve this goal. But everything is fine now.  The ship is settled above the earth.  No damage was done to it.  The ship is safe and well.

I still have one or two problems with the computer but that’s not a big thing.  I will fix those problems soon.  I intend to fix them shortly.  I am sure I will fix them.  Be that as it may, I am not sure if this diary is broadcasting to you.  That’s the first problem.  I am not sure if this message is broadcasting live.  I think it is.  I think my words are going out into space.  You should be able to hear me.  You should be able to understand me.

That’s my hope anyway.  I want to keep a conversation with you.  I want to spend some time in your company.  I want to speak to you.  I want to get to know you. I can’t do that if you can’t hear me. Up to now it wasn’t a dialogue we were having but a monologue! Me talking; me broadcasting and you listening.  Loneliness is better than bad company.  But you are not bad company.  If I am lucky, you will be listening but that’s the second problem with this computer:  I can’t hear you yet.  I can’t hear anything at the minute.  There’s a flaw in the radio system.  I don’t hear anything at the minute.  I don’t hear even a line of talk.  I don’t hear even a word.  I don’t hear even a syllable.  I don’t hear anything.  I only hear silence.

I hear only quietness at the minute.  But I will hear you soon.  I will hear your voice.  I will hear your voice.  We will have a big long conversation together.  We will talk about everything.  We will speak about what happened on earth.  We will speak about all the disasters which affected the planet.  We will speak about the floods and the storms.  We will speak about famine and drought.

And we will speak about the days before the disaster.  We will speak about holidays by the sea.  We will speak about nice weather and tasty food.  We will speak about the wonders of the world.  We will talk from morning until night.  We will talk from dawn to dusk.  We will talk without stopping.  We talk until we fall asleep.  We will talk from planet to moon.  Two people shorten the road as they say.  Two people shorten space travel!

We will talk.  Me and you.  As soon as I fix this damn computer and this radio system as well.  In the meantime, I send you my blessing.
