10. Time and patience would bring the snail to Jerusalem.

What kind of a person are you?  I am a stubborn (thran) person.  Do you understand “stubborn” (thran)?  A person who doesn’t give in or a person who doesn’t give in easily.  A person who has a goal.  The stubborn person works to achieve that goal.  Nothing will put the work off course.  Well, I don’t give in easily.  I have a goal.  I have been talking to you about that goal for a while now.  We have been conversing for a while.  Perhaps there are some people who started listening to me but gave up.  They were not stubborn enough.  We won’t let them join our club.

But you are still with me.  You have travelled a good bit of the road with me.  You are still travelling with me.  That is good.  I admire your courage.  I admire your company.  I am grateful to you for keeping me company.  We haven’t met but we are friends.  That’s what I believe anyway.  We are friends.  I have no doubt about that.

What kind of a person are you?  A stubborn person, without a doubt.  A courageous person as well.  It takes courage to undertake this work.  It takes courage to achieve this goal.  You are also a patient person.  You come back every night and you listen to me.  You come back every night and you give me advice by e-mail.  It takes patience to do that.  Not everyone would be able for that.  People are impatient.  They get angry.  Problems get them down. They give up the work.  They turn their back on the project.  They abandon the work.

You are not like that.  Problems don’t get you down. You don’t give up the work.  You don’t turn your back on the project.  You don’t abandon the work.  That’s why we get on together. That’s why we are friends – even though we have never met.  You are sitting at home listening to me tonight, for example.  You were at home listening to me last night and you will be at home listening to me tomorrow.  That is good.  I admire your courage.  I admire your company.  You are invincible.  I like that characteristic in a person.  I like to imagine that I am invincible as well.  Certainly, there are people who have no respect for me. There are people who never did me a favour.  There are people who criticised me and who still criticise me.  There are people who treated me badly.  There are people who made little of my research.  Let them.  May they die like kittens.  I am still alive.

Your company inspires me.  That’s the truth.  People would say that we are strangers because we have never met.  People would say that we have a pitiable friendship.  People would say that we are not friends.  Rubbish, I say!  You are out there listening to me.  You are the light in the darkness.  You are the candle on the windowsill.  You are the star in the sky.  You are my friend.  You keep me company.

Time passes slowly here.  The work is hard.  What surprise is that?  We are undertaking a big project.  But we are succeeding.  Bit by bit, this spaceship is looking better.  Yes.  Spaceship.  That’s our goal.  Time and Patience would bring the snail to Jerusalem.

This snail of a spaceship is on the way to Jerusalem.  We will reach our destination.  You and I. We will finish this project.  We will look back on the journey and we will be proud.  I admire your courage.  I admire your company.  I admire the snail.  Listen here, I have to go.  I will be back to you tomorrow night. May you be safe, dear friend.  Keep the candle lit!
