SubvertisingLast year almost £20 billion was spent in the UK on advertising. Approximately £1 billion of this went on street adverts - more than double the amount spent 10 years ago.
Wherever you go
its sell, sell, sell. But there's an underground movement of people who are getting fed up with the boom in consumerism. And they're fighting back by changing the messages on the billboards. It's called "subvertising" and Inside Out West has discovered that Bristol is a hot bed for this kind of activity. Lydia's story Parents will do almost anything to help their children - but Tony Cross has had to sacrifice more than most. His daughter Lydia lost both her legs to meningitis at the age of two. Now, Tony is putting himself in the line of fire, as a private security guard in Iraq, to pay for Lydia's false legs. Inside Out West revisits the Cross family to see how they're coping now Lydia is five-years-old. Ebbor GorgeYou've heard of Cheddar Gorge and the Avon Gorge, but Inside Out West has been exploring a lesser known natural wonder. Hidden away in the Mendips, Ebbor Gorge is no less magical than its more famous neighbours. In fact, with no traffic running along the bottom, it's a real hotspot for finding some fantastic wildlife. Mike Dilger spent a whole day in the gorge to discover bellflowers, bats and butterflies.
