Laura will be up against 15 people in this weekend’s round, where two contestants will go through to the National finals in London. Live and Unsigned is a national competition which allows bands and singers to showcase their talents and perform live. The winning act receives a recording and management contract worth up to £20,000. The Beverley-based singer, who attends St Mary’s College in Hull, began song-writing just over a year ago (when she was in Year 9) and now has six songs to her play list. Laura is a talented musician who won the Middlesbrough Catholic Diocese talent competition, Pope Idol last year. But Laura is not content with singing and writing songs, she also plays an array of musical instruments including the piano, clarinet, percussion and the guitar. Along with her family and friends, the MySpace community have also been appreciating Laura’s music and encouraging her by leaving comments on her profile page. “It feels like you’re famous already. I’ve had people from Texas who have been commenting. It feels really good,” says Laura. There is musical blood in the family; Laura’s mum is a music teacher at South Hunsley School.
